These crossings of data are potentially generating great advances in the fields of mobility, health, etc. Occitanie Data brings together communities, companies, institutions of higher learning and public institutions that want to create together a space of trust around ethical rules and an economic model.   OneWeb Satellites, a French-American start-up based in Toulouse,  is tackling the unique challenge of producing a constellation of 900 satellites to broadcast internet over the world. The ambitious objective to produce 2 satellites a day have been addressed through a significant technological rupture in digital manufacturing and test as well as strong data analytics to support the production. Predictions of a system's behaviour or its optimisation are based on simulation and calculations. While the simulation is based on a system model obtained analytically or numerically from engineering knowledge, the machine learning approach is essentially based on the analysis of the data in order to deduce the model and / or the characteristics / parameters of said system without even requiring knowledge of the physical laws governing that system. In this presentation, we discuss how each approach has its advantages and disadvantages and how they can be combined to improve understanding of systems and enable a more robust, faster and more reliable design.
